The beastles consist of two full CDs worth of “mash ups”, combining Beatles songs and Beastie Boys songs.
I am a huge and steadfast fan of both bands. Therein lies my problem – I have no way of compensating either band for the music, because it is in copyright limbo.
“Limbo” is being very generous; in actual fact the music is a clear copyright violation. There is no compulsory license that allows such mashing-up.
Fortunately, i’ve already bought CDs with all the corresponding Beatles songs and most of the Beastie Boys songs… So I wonder if i can pay the DJ for the “service” of mashing up those songs without it being a moral and legal violation.
